Our Heritage
Discover the rich history and passionate dedication behind Yambu Thakali Restaurant, where tradition meets excellence in every dish.
Founded in 2008 by the Thakali family, Yambu Thakali Restaurant represents more than just a dining establishment—it's a cultural bridge connecting the ancient traditions of Nepal's mountain regions with the modern world. Our name "Yambu" refers to the ancient Sanskrit name of Kathmandu, symbolizing our deep connection to Nepalese heritage.
The Thakali people, originally from the Mustang region of Nepal, have been renowned for centuries for their exceptional culinary skills and warm hospitality. Our family recipes have been carefully preserved and passed down through five generations, each adding their own touch while maintaining the authentic essence of traditional Thakali cuisine.
Every dish we serve tells a story—of mountain traders who created hearty, flavorful meals to sustain long journeys; of families gathering around the fire to share food and stories; of a culture that believes food is the ultimate expression of love and hospitality.
"Food is not just sustenance—it's a celebration of culture, a bridge between hearts, and a way to share the warmth of our Himalayan heritage with the world."
